Schroeder-Headz is a club jazz trio project, formed by keyboardist Shunsuke Watanabe, who is known as one of the most expressive, free-flowing piano/synthesizer/keyboard player on the scene. The concept of the band was to musically express the thoughts of the iconic Peanut’s character, Schroeder. The group performs music as filtered through Schroeder’s ears, fusing classical, jazz, electronic dance music while paying tribute to the Vince Guaraldi Trio, who played music for the original animated adaptations of the Peanuts Comic Strip.
In 2010, the trio released their first album “NEWDAYS.” The album became a long-seller in VILLAGE VANGUARD (a bookstore popular among trendy, young Japanese). After that, Schroeder-Headz released a mini cover album “PIANO à la carte feat. Schroeder-Headz,” fulfilling one of their dreams of collaborating with Schroeder from the original Peanuts comics on the CD cover. The cover song “baby’s star jam,” was a blend of the original track by DE DE MOUSE and Schroeder-Headz’s live recordings, and this perfectly balanced combination was highly appraised by the music industry. The band also regularly performs at many jazz festivals around Japan.
Leader of the band, Shunsuke Watanabe also produces and arranges music for commercial and movies and even lends his vocals in some works. He’s also active in other side projects such as “cafelon,” and “KOTATSU Universe.”
Schoeder-Headz has performed at internationally recognized jazz festivals such as, Penang Island Jazz Festival and Java Jazz Festival.
